In January 2003 we interviewed DarkOmen, the man in charge of the C&C Reborn mod for Renegade. We wanted to find out as much as we could about this Tiberian Sun conversion for Renegade.

1) Firstly, who are the creative people behind C&C Reborn? Who is working on what?

Currently we are 4 active members and 3 in-active members:

Active members:
  • DrNuke - Boning, Modeling, Animations
  • Rawflez - Skinning
  • Sparxxx - Modeling, Mapping
  • and me - Organizing all, Implementing everything, Modeling, Mapping
In-active:
  • Blitz - Modeling (is in the army now for 9 months)
  • DarkRanger - Sounds
  • Moby3012 - Arts
2) Give the fans out there a brief description of C&C Reborn. What will be in it, what can they expect, is there a story behind it?

C&C Reborn is basically a mod which transforms Renegade to Tiberian Sun, you'll be able to play with every Vehicle of TS and FS. Maybe we'll make a SP expansion later, with a story and so on...

3) Why make a Tiberian Sun mod, was it a spur of the moment idea or something you planned months before Renegade was released?

It was planned before Renegade was released, about 1-2 months before. TS has great cut scenes and cool units, these are the reasons why we're making the mod.

4) What hurdles have you encountered during the development of C&C Reborn. And how have you over come them?

At the beginning we wanted to implement things like a "Build Mode", but these ideas weren't possible. Another problem was the Underground thingy, but we finally found a solution for it ;)

5) How long has C&C Reborn been in development and when can fans expect it to be released?

We started with Reborn in march, so it's nearly one year in development. I can't say when the first public beta will be released, because we don't want to rush the whole mod...

6) Will any extra system requirements be needed to run the mod, or is in basically any system that can run the original Renegade will handle the mod?

We'll test that before releasing the mod...

7) Have you been able to reuse any thing like textures, sounds and other files that are already present in the original game?

We edited some sounds, but that's all...

8) Music and sound is an important part in a game, will C&C Reborn feature authentic sounds that fans will recognize from the original Tiberian Sun? And are their any music tracks planned?

Yea, we edited some original sounds, and you can expect some music in the maps ;)

9) Any plans for single player, or is it strictly a conversion of C&C Mode?

We're planning a SP mode, but we'll finish the MP mode first...

10) Have you contacted Westwood about the mod, if so, did you get any feed back about C&C Reborn from them?
They helped us with some pics of units...

11) What has the interest from fans and other C&C/Westwood sites in the community been like? More than you expected or less?

I never expected that Reborn would be that popular. Wow ;)

12) Lastly, Do you have any comments you want to say to the fans that are early awaiting the release of C&C Reborn?

Something big is coming ;)
