The Soviets: New Structures
The Soviets have a few new structures to add to their offence and defence strategies. Below you can find descriptions of the known new structures.
| Construction Yard |
Description: The heart of your base, the Construction Yard builds all of your structures. If you lose this, you will not be able to build any other structures...so you better protect it.
| Fortress Wall Section |
Description: These are like concrete walls, but appear to have barbed wire and spikes as well. It's not clear if these provide any added benifit or if they're to make it look more ominous. |
| Tesla Reactor |
Description:The Tesla Reactor is the standard Soviet Power Plant. |
| Nuclear Reactor |
Description:The Nuclear Reactor provides a lot of power, but it's...well...it's a Nuke. Destroying one of these has the same effect of launching a nuke at the area. Say goodbye to any troops and buildings near it if it goes up. Worse, the radiation lasts for a very, very long time (if not forever), so your base will be turned into, quite literally, a nuclear wasteland. Guard it. |
| Barracks |
Description: The Soviet Barracks is identical to the Allied Barracks...it produces all your infantry units. This building, along with all or most other buildings, may engage "Turtle Mode", in which (in this case) the Statue will lower and the building's armor will be temporarily increased. |
| War Factory |
Description: The War Factory produces all your land vehicles. |
| Battle Lab |
Description: The Battle Lab is an advanced version of the War Factory allowing you to build more advanced units. |
| Service Depot |
Description: The Battle Lab is an advanced version of the War Factory allowing you to build more advanced units. |
| Battle Lab |
Description: The Tech Center provides unique advancements in technology, allowing you to build more advanced units. |
| Naval Yard |
Description: The Naval Yard produces all naval vessels. |
| Ore Refinery |
Description: The Ore Refinery is where the Chrono Miner/War Miner docks and unloads its cargo of Ore and/or Gems. These will in turn be converted into credits (money). |
| Flak Cannon |
Description: The Flak Cannon shoots anti-aircraft shells up into the air which explode at a set altitude, the sharpnel from which damage (and eventually destroy) nearby aircraft. |
| Sentry Gun |
Description: The Sentry Gun is the Soviet equivilent to the Pillbox. Its robotic gun chews through infantry like there was no tomorrow. |
| Tesla Coil |
Description: The Tesla Coil may be the most memorable building in all of Red Alert. It returns in Red Alert 2. It's massive bolt of electricity is sufficient enough to fry enemy infantry and destroy enemy units in just a couple shots. While it isn't any more powerful than in Red Alert, if you have a Tesla Trooper or two hook up to one of these things (ass seen in the screenshot to the left) their range is increased along with their firepower. These buildings require lots of power. |
| Cloning Vats |
Description: The Cloning Vats allow you to make exact clones of Soviet infantry. Building one of these also gains you access to Allied infantry through Yuri's mind control (It's not clear how this works, though. This particular structures is both interesting and mysterious). |
| Psychic Sensor |
Description: The Psychic Sensor allows you to keep track of enemy units (whether this means you see the unit [and it in turn reveals terrain for you] or if you just see a "marker" isn't clear), and see which of your buildings or units the enemy is going to attack over a limited range. |
| Radar Tower |
Description: The Soviet Radar Tower provides you with the radar map in the upper right, and it will reveal a substantial amount of terrain around itself when built. |
| Missle Silo |
Description: The Missile Silo houses Nuclear Missiles, which, after "charging" for a period of time, can be launched anywhere on the map, wreaking havoc on the target area, destroying any buildings, infantry, and heavily damaging (if not destroying) units. It also leaves radiation in the area which lasts an extremely long time (if not forever), creating a nuclear wasteland. |
| Iron Curtain |
Description: The Iron Curtain is yet another returning building from Red Alert. After a long charing period, it allows you to "shield" any any units in a 3x3 square for 45 seconds. This shield makes the unit or building invulnerable for a short period of time. Be careful though, infantry will melt from the excessive energy if they're in the 3x3 square. |
